The SAI Eritrea was established in 1992 by a proclamation, which states the mandates of Office of the Auditor General of the State of Eritrea. The Head of SAI reports to the National Assembly (Parliament).
The Head of the SAI audits the income and expenditure and other related financial matters of the Government.
Head of the SAI is appointed by the President with the approval of National Assembly and is accountable to the National Assembly.
The Auditor General is appointed for a term of five years.
The powers, duties and organisation of the Auditor General and his office are determined by the law.
The SAI is currently in the process of drafting a subsidiary legislation for presentation to the Government.
